An eye implant providing up to 3x optical magnification has completed Phase II/III human trials.

Designed for people with Advanced Macular Degeneration, enhancements like this could be available as elective upgrades for healthy eyes in the future.

Update [nym]: I initially wrote about this back in November, but it hadn't completed human trials then. Sweet!

Wow, this would be so cool if it made it to the market place. I'd buy two. And then upgrade soon as the next came out.

Don't get me wrong, my eyes have better then 20/20 vision, but my god I'd love to be able to read a book from 20-30 feet away without a problem.

Woah, its really quite incredible how cybernetics is moving forward, even through its quite a hot potato in the public arena. Why doesn't this appear on the news, why do we have to search for this stuff? Some serious breakthroughs being made and its all being kept underground. Tis a shame really.

God I really wanna get one of these beauties to upgrade my dodgy right eye.

Please advise me as to how a person can volunteer for testing in this field of human enhancement. I have long wished to assist in this type of scientific endeavor and can not seem to find a way to join in the actual studies.

Trials for this particular technology are restricted to people with Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
